The Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology
Neuronal Signaling Laboratory
Research in the laboratory is directed towards understanding signaling processes in the nervous system at all levels of organization, ranging from the molecular level (for instance molecules involved in the release of neurotransmitters), over the cellular level (for instance plasticity, regulation or integration of synaptic signals), up to the systems level (communication in networks of neurons, or between neurons and astrocytes).
The research includes studies of aging and disease models. The research groups use a multitude of different techniques (viral expression, knock-out mice, single cell and array electrophysiological recordings, advanced optical methods, 2-photon microscopy, measurements of cerebral blood flow and O2 use and mathematical modeling). Details can be found on the homepages of the individual research groups.
